 Bouira (Bouïra in Tifinagh, in French: Bouira), is an Algerian state located in the north of the country, bordered on the north by the states of Tizi Ouzou and Boumerdes, on the south by that of M'sila, on the west by those of Blida and Médéa, and on the east by those of Bordj Bou Arreridj and Bejaia. Bouira has the state number 10.

 

The province of Bouira retained its original size when the number of Algerian provinces was increased to 48 in February 1984.

Bouira is also called "Toufirst" (in the Berber language: Tubiret), and the most important tourist attractions of the state of Bouira are the mountains of Tikjda.




Landforms

The topography of the state of Bouira is characterized by its diversity and richness in valleys, mountains, hills, and straits, and consists of five geographical areas:

  • The central plain of Bouira, south of the Khenna Mountains. 

  • The eastern end of the Atlas Mountains. 

  • The southern slopes of the Djurdjura Mountains. 

  • The Biban mountain range and the higher grounds of the south.

  • The southern depression of the Biban mountains.

The climate

Bouira has a continental climate, harsh in winter and hot in summer, compared to the southern regions.

In the north and center of the state, the Mediterranean climate prevails, characterized by rainy and mild winters, while in summer it is characterized by heat.

 

Tourism

 

Bouira is one of the unexploited tourist states, as the region of Tikjda is located in the mountains of Djurdjura, and its highest peak is Lalla Khadija, which has a height of 2,308 meters, which is visited by tourists from around the world.

The forests of the Ahl al-Qasr region are spread over vast areas, attracting tourists from all over.

The province of Bouira is also known for its agriculture, such as wheat, as it has the largest mill in Algeria and also produces large quantities of potatoes.

The state abounds in several tourist qualifications, such as mountain tourism, which is at the forefront because of its charming sites, such as the mountainous tourist region of Tikjda, which includes the third highest peak in Algeria 2038 m.

There are other regions, such as the Biban Mountains, in addition to Tachoin Lalla Malawi, southeast of the inhabitants of Al-Qasr, and there is Hammam Kasana. 

There are also some extensions of the Atlas Beledi range and the Bakas Mountains near Qadriya.

It is also characterized by eco-tourism due to the different relief of this state, which entitles it to a huge environmental diversity in addition to various wild animals and many plants.

In addition to the traditional heritage of the region, such as the traditional industry of ornaments, pottery, and traditional clothing, in addition to the moral heritage represented in religious occasions, weddings, and festivals.
