Etymology

 

The name of the city of Tizi Ouzou is attributed to the thorny bushes with yellow roses that are very common in this region which has 1,400 villages.

 

Language

 

The state's inhabitants speak Berber, a tribal dialect, as well as the colloquial vernacular. The Arabic language is used in official documents, as stipulated in the state constitution.

Location and geography

Tizi Ouzou is strategically located as a transit center to the states of Boumerdès, Bouira, Algiers and Béjaïa.

 

The population

The origin of the population goes back to the Berbers, who are the first inhabitants of Algeria.
