Tlemcen (local dialect: Tlemcen) is a city located in northwestern Algeria, the capital of the state of Tlemcen and the second most important city on the west side after Oran. It is 520 km from the capital, 140 km from Oran by the national road 22 and 110 km by the East-West highway, 40 km from the Moroccan border, and 40 km from the Mediterranean coast. It is bordered to the north by Shatwan and El Hanaya, to the east by Ain Faza and Wadi El Safsef, to the south by Terni and Jabal Bani Warnad, and to the west by Mansoura.
The Maghreb
was home to most of the Zenit Berbers and their ancestors, who had a great
influence on the history of the North African region. It was known as Pomaria in Roman times, which
was founded in the year 201. Then it was later known as "Agadir" and
"the city of the wall" at the beginning of the Islamic era because it
was the capital of the Ivernian state, then it was called "Tlemcen"
at the beginning of the 9th century AD. The Almoravids established in 1080 near
the old city the suburb of "Takarrat". And the city became the
capital of the central Maghreb at the time of the Zayanite state for more than
three centuries.
It is proud
of its glorious and prosperous past, its Andalusian landmarks firmly
established in the Great Islamic Maghreb, and the owner of picturesque natural
sites, the “City of Art and History” as Georges Morsi called it. It is called
the pearl of the Maghreb.
The city is
situated in the middle of vineyards and olive groves and is famous for its
leather, carpet, and textile industries. And all these influences have made it
sit at the top of the tourist areas in Algeria.

There are several opinions about the name of Tlemcen:
According to Yahya Bouaziz: The name Tlemcen is composed of two Berber words: "Talam" which means "together" and "San" which means "two", because it united the two cities of Tigrarat, founded by Youssef bin Tashfin, and Agadir , founded by Abu Qara Al-Yafrini on the ruins of Boumaria.
As for George Marsi, it is believed that the name Tlemcen (from the Berber Tala Yemsan, and the meaning of the word Tala has the spring, and Lemsan, meaning dry, becomes the word Tlemcen "dry spring").
And a saying that it is a deformation of the plural of Tlemcen with a fracture and a sukoon, and the singular tamas means a pocket of water or spring, so the name Tlemcen means the city of sources
As for what is being promoted by the general public, it is an Arabic word consisting of two words, tlemma - plural - and human to become tlemcen. The People's Assembly, even if it does not enjoy any scientific or historical support.
Tlemcen did not always bear this name, but it was called Boumaria, Agadir, then the Decisions, as I once had several nicknames, including the wall and the pearl of the Maghreb.
